Engraving Mugs With the xTool S1 Fully Enclosed Laser, Riser Base and RA2 Pro Rotary
Every time I make a model there is a challenge. I appreciate you showing that challenges. The advantage of these challenges is that they make you a better woodworker. Thanks for sharing. Glad I'm tuned in. BTW I might have made that difficult part with the scroll saw.
The scroll saw would have been another way of making that part for sure. That's the great thing about our hobby. If you can't make a part using a certain method, there are always more methods to choose from. Thanks for tuning in Dutchy and for the kind words.
Wow. You made it all put together in my head. I had a vague notion of setup but now that's pretty much embedded in my head. I bought a couple of the bits and been hesitant to use them. Now I can figure out what to make first with them. Thank you. Subscribed
Glad to have your as a subscriber Randy. With over 875 episodes of the show on the channel, I'm sure that there's something there to interest you. Thanks for tuning in and good luck on your setup.
I looked on your web site under free patterns and did not find Dutch’s sachet? Did I just overlook it?
Oh my gosh, you are 100% right. I must have forgotten to upload it. I've corrected that and it is now on the website. Thanks so much for pointing that out to me Dan. I appreciate you tuning in.
Kenny, great problem solving skills on this show. The tongue of that trailer would have driven me bonkers. Looking forward to the next installment.
It pretty much did drive me bonkers Paul.....but then again, it's a pretty short drive for me. Thanks for tuning in.
Hi Kenny, great Video and good to watch you overcome this problem. Thanks for continuing with this, it is going to look very nice when finished. I think it will be award winning.
Glad that you liked the show and the project William. I truly appreciate you tuning in this week. Thanks.
good evening Kenny. I have a question for you. Have you ever considered getting the xTool 1064nm Infrared Laser Module for D1 Pro for engraving metals? It's an interchangeable laser head to replace the standard head for metal engraving.
I have considered it and quickly decided against it. It's not that it isn't a capable unit or that it wouldn't work, but for me I just don't engrave enough metals to make it worth the extra expense. Maybe the folks at xTool would send me out one to test. ;) I would have to plan on engraving a lot more metals before purchasing the IR head. For now though, I will just use a catalyst on my metal engraving and have it mark the metals like that. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in.
I agree about the cost and the rare use to engrave metals. The only reason it even became a thought was that I received a "sale" notice and the unit was selling for $250 less than usual. But even that was a bit much for the 1-2x use a year. So I thought I'd seek out another point of view. Thank you.
Excellent video! Thank you!
Glad that you liked it. Thanks for tuning in.
Great show. Thanks for the jokes. Not to brag, but at the grocery store the cashier was checking me out.
LOL. That's a good one. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with your joke. Love it.
I know exactly how you feel. I started building the power wagon, and I have remade so many parts. I had to stop working on it for a few days because of other projects that needed to get done first. My wife and I have a booth at our local marketplace, and we have to keep things going in there first. But the power wagon does have some mind-boggling details in it . Great show, and thank you again for your expertise
I'd love to see your progress on it Don. Feel free to send pics via email if you'd like. Thanks for tuning in this week and for the kind words.
Ridiculius barrel change setup.
Not every setup can please every worker. Thanks for tuning in and for taking the time to leave your comment.
Great job and video! This is perfect for this old guy to try with a piece of the ton of scrap wood I saved. A good project to be able to start and stop at will. Thanks........
Glad that you liked it. Good luck on your project and thanks for tuning in to the show.
Those plans don't look complete, but I think you did brilliantly.
In my experience with plans of any kind, whether it be building models or building homes, no set of plans is complete because there are so many different interpretations of how to read them. Thanks for tuning in Mark and for the kind words.
I shall certainly be here for the next episode!
I hope you enjoy it Scott. Thanks for tuning in this week.
This has been an epic build and I've enjoyed every second of it ... roll on the next episode👍 With regards the trailer hitch angles cutting, I've just done a similar angled cut on a set of speaker cabinets I made for a friend ... I marked out all of the lines defining the shape of the cut and then held the piece in such a way that I had two lines visible which I sanded down to, that automatically meant the it was also sanded down to the third line perfectly.
Sounds like you have the method down to a science Barry. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
Great build again, do you think you could do a series on dust extraction for us woodworkers undo do some of the jargon etc, once again great series. Bry
I did a brief rundown not too long ago about controlling dust in the shop but I do have intentions of doing a full on dust collection show in the near future. Thanks for tuning in and for the show suggestion.
Great to see this moving along smoothly. I’m enjoying the way you have put the second part of this tutorial together. Thanks again for your knowledge that you share. 👍🏻🇦🇺
Glad that you are enjoying it Troy. Thanks for tuning in.
Good Video. I have a couple questions and maybe someone has some insight. For one I'm using oak and it seems to not like to be routed. When using the dovetail (80) it makes a wonderful loud cut almost like it is struggling. I might not be using enough RPM's or Oak is just this way? Two I noticed you have a board on top to hold the fingers with the top of the board being cut. I saw you didn't use it as a backstop to prevent chip out. So I had some major chip out on the oak. I'm having to use a sacrificial backstop to prevent chip out. Is that a normal process with this jig? Thanks in advance.
There are several reasons your router could be "struggling". It may be underpowered for the process. Your bit could be dull or you may be trying to power through the stock at too high of a speed. I'm not sure if any of these are your issue but they are just some common reasons for why this could be happening. Routing a dovetail through stock (in this case oak) is a pretty tough routing and you want to take it slow and do light passes. Don't try and power through the routing but rather take little cuts at a time. This will also help with your tear out issue. Oak is a pretty coarse grained wood and has issues with tear out anyway but if a backer board is what you want to use, there is nothing wrong with that. It shouldn't be necessary but you can use it if it will help to get a cleaner routing. It's not the fault of the jig but rather the cutter and the stock. Ease up on your pressure as the bit breaks through the back side of the dovetail and then use the bit behind the stock to rout toward you to clean up the back edge. Oak is notorious for blowout when routing dovetails but it is still doable if you adjust your methods a little. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
Great save on the "troublesome" piece. A lot of times it takes longer to figure out how to do something than to actually do it. Great job Ken!! David
In my experience with these builds David, sometimes, you have to change things up and get back to the basics in order to complete a project or a piece. Sometimes, overthinking the part is our enemy. Thanks for tuning in and for the kind words.
Great video as always, you would think toys and joys would have the measurements correct before they sell the plans.
I'm not sure what version of the plans I have a this may be an earlier version before corrections. Who knows? Either way, we were able to compensate and work through the problems. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
Lots of angle cuts, looks fantastic. Another fantastic video
This one kind of hurt my head. LOL. Thanks for tuning in and for the kind words.
Must be REALLY COLD there now, you have 3 fans blowing in the wood burning stove. hehe
Not very cold with those 3 fans blowing. thanks for tuning in Karl.
Thank you for the video. While you stated you're aren't that concerned about raising the surface of the opposote side of punch strike, there is energy going into out-of-plane deformation (the dimple). I wonder if this approach were done on a steel surface, if more of the energy would be transferred into the square and thus require a lower striking force?
Your method may work David. I've never tried it as I was never concerned with the slight dimple on the square. I may have to give that a try. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with your suggestion.
Another great video and one that shows that no matter how many of these models we do, there is always some part that just doesn't filter into our spacial data base for an easy fabrication. Your block plane solution is brilliant and the use of hand tools is sometimes the best way to go. I was thinking about how you cut the Tongue Pivot on the bandsaw and my first inclination would have been to use double stick tape onto a larger piece of stock and then cut it. I've had small parts jump out of the screw clamps in the past and so use them as my last resort. However, that's me and I'm sure that there are many times when my solution is pretty hamfisted. 🤣😂🤣😂 Another winner, Kenny. I really can't wait until next week. I am getting more and more settled in to building this model as my next project. I have been thinking of the WWII jeep but . . . . . . . . . Take care and have a wonderful week.
That little Jeep is really fun project. I did it couple years ago.
There is a picture album on the channel's Facebook page of the entire WWII Jeep build. I hope that you do give it a try as it is a great build. Plenty of challenges and hurdles to overcome and that's my favourite part of making any of these models. The problem solving is the most challenging part. Thanks for tuning in this week and for the kind words on the show. I truly appreciate it.
Great video, excellent teaching. Thank you for the detailed measurements!
You're very welcome Trevor. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
Nice I learn from u much more
Glad to hear it. Thanks for tuning in.
I appreciate the repetition of the feed-rate-to-rotation-rate advise as you demonstrate the where and why (even for the sharp corners). That helps. Love the outside corner loop hint. Those stop-&-rotate corners make me cringe, thinking you'll break the blade. Then I remember that this is not a bandsaw, with a blade many times wider than it is thick. (But I still cringe.) The heat gun removal of the pattern was yet another great tip.
Don't be afraid of breaking blades Stuart. Blades are consumables with a scroll saw and you will break many of them over your scrolling lifetime. The spinning of the blades like that works with the smaller sized blades, but you will never be able to do it with thicker stock and thicker blades. Good luck with your scrolling adventure and please don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have. Thanks for tuning in.
How do you call a spanish guy who lost his car? Carlos
That's bad. Good, but bad. LOL. Thanks for tuning in.
is oil or oil-free better? aside from convenience.
I think that's all personal preference. For my money, I prefer oil. Motors should have lubrication and I still don't trust the oil free compressors. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in.
@@acutabove_woodworkings it sounds like a few people also prefer oil. thank you for your feedback.
@@HiFiInsider You're very welcome.
Are you selling this tongue drum ?🎉
I'm sorry but I don't sell any of my projects. Thanks for tuning in.
You can put the stems and flip the lid over so the stems go inside the box, you’ll still have a flat top surface to stack the others on top
You are not the first to suggest that but I wish that that suggestion came in while I was working on these. LOL. I can't believe that I didn't think of it. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with your suggestion. It's a great one.
Some of those jokes were great, I get in the neck from my grown kids when I start with my jokes. I'm sure that's what a Dad joke is all about.
Definitely. Kids just don't get it. LOL. Thanks for tuning in Mark.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 how many takes did it take for some of these jokes 😂😂😂😂
These were all pretty much done in one take so the reactions are genuine. I crack myself up. LOL. Thanks for tuning in.
What do you call a Dad who tells lots of Dad jokes? A groan man!
LOL. That's a good one too. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with that.
Yuck Yuck Yuck. I thought the jokes were pretty good.
LOL. There are some groaners in there for sure Paul. Thanks for tuning in.
I am speechless!!!! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 and for the record, I immediately got the Airplane mode joke! A wonderful segment. Do we really have to wait another year??? Please say "yes"!! rahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah. Thanks for making the day a bit brighter. Now, I'm listening again to catch more of the jokes!
Nothing wrong with a little humour to brighten the day. Thanks for tuning in to the show. I hope you enjoy it the second time around.
Defo some crackers there Kenny, i'm looking forward to episode 3. Take Care. Barry (UK)
Horrible, absolutely horrible! Can't wait until next year 🎉 Thanks for the laughs 😁
Glad that I could give you a chuckle. Thanks for tuning in.
Thanks for the giggles. Corn is my type of humor.
Well you got plenty of it on this show Doug. LOL. Thanks for tuning in.
You think you will lose subscribers, Nah, how could I do that to a person who has so much variety and tells jokes to a camera and then even laughs. I needed a laugh today Kenny. Thank you so much for your channel and teaching us all kinds of things my friend.
Glad that you are enjoying the channel William. There is definitely a ton of variety in the show. Thanks for tuning in.

That one took my off guard. LOL. Funny stuff. Thanks for tuning in.
